How does the Development Application process work?

  1. Firstly the town planner will look at what you are proposing and research the planning scheme and State Government documents to determine the level of assessment.  
  2. The process of town planning commences with plans being drawn up for the development.  These need to meet the requirements set out by the State Government.  Our town planner will assist the person drawing your plans to ensure that they are acceptable.
  3. Once the plans are completed, our town planner will commence preparing a report which addresses the relevant councilís planning scheme codes as well as the required State Government Codes.
  4. The application may require additional consultantís reports and our town planner will let you know if these are required.  Any delays in having these prepared may prolong the process of preparation of the town planning report.  
  5. The report is then lodged with Council along with the Council fees.  It is at this point that BCERT Consultingís fees for preparing the application will need to be paid as well.  
  6. Lodgement Stage The council has two weeks to decide whether they need any further information to assess the application.  They may extend this time frame for a further two weeks if needed.
